I have a soft spot for Timeless Timber!

I have to say I have a soft spot for Timber furniture and Timber floors. Quite a few of the blogs I've been reading also confirm my belief that timber finishes and furniture really are part of a classic style and bring warmth to a room. Whether it's white wash "Shabby Chic" or the classic warm tones of hardwood floors or a chair or table made from teak or recycled timber through to an antique finish. If you choose the right pieces of timber furniture with a classic theme or style (furniture you fall in love with at first sight) you can keep these items and change the accessories and the colour scheme of the room and still have a new look. Timber items don't have to be matching and in the same style, but you can tie the items together through the use of complementing accessories.

I think the post on the connect furniture blog (http://blog.connectfurniture.com.au/post/1421068476/which-wood-you-choose) really summed up my feelings about timber, hey I even have timber as the background image on my blog!

"The beauty of timber furniture is always in the eye of the beholder. We are unique individuals and as such different timbers will “speak” to people differently. I watch every week as those frequenting my showroom reach out their hand and run it along the length of the timbers in our showroom tables as if reaching out to nature."

So here's some images where Timber is the key to the room's appeal.

In My House: Brisbane House in Print

In the February edition of Woman's weekly (Nicole Kidman is on the cover) there's a great feature on a Queensland home which has been beautifully renovated. The decoration is a credit to the ladies at Lily-G who have worked with the owner to create such an appealing home. I'm not sure why the Women's Weekly has no hint of this or any other home features on their web page? But the good news is, if you can't get a hold of the magazine click on the links below to see some of the pictures of this Queenslander and the superb use of subtle tones with some striking styling features.

The Woollongabba Antique Centre

I have been driving past the centre every week for quite a while and decided to finally take the time to pop in and take a look yesterday! What a fantastic place. Everything is displayed so well in themed shops; and there is something for everyone whether you are looking for Shabby Chic, Retro, Vintage or just something special from another era! The cafe reminded me of my Nana's eat in kitchen and brought back so many happy memories. I particularly liked Shop 62 Paint Me White with hand painted furniture in "White" of course! French at Heart was also another scene stealer. I could have spent hours there taking in all of the wonderful items for sale but duty calls so will have to make another trip again soon. If you can't make it there in a hurry check out their online store.

Inspirational Places GOMA Re-opening

I was very excited to hear that GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) is re-opening tomorrow after the devastating Queensland floods. I find each time I visit the Gallery that I'm refreshed and inspired by the wonderful works of art that are on display. I visited the Andy Warhol exhibition twice, I loved it so much. The current exhibition is "21st Century: Art in the First Decade". So get along to GOMA and support a great Brisbane Art icon. You may be inspired to create your own piece of Artwork or just enjoy the view!
